The
Pro-Life event at the Reagan Library was a success - and Oliver and
I enjoyed the company of the students and Pastor Jasa from UCLA Chapel-
The ladies of Our Redeemer LWML were excited about the UCLA Lutheran
Chapel after Lauren and Bart -(from the Chapel ) eloquently spoke about
the merits of the Chapel's MISSION!!! to the young people of UCLA.
Most of you know that I have taken the Lutheran Chapel as a MISSION -
for my focus; Pastor Jasa is on campus several days every week - to
speak to the students - about JESUS their Savior...
More on Carol's Blog Here, and;
Pastor Jasa
is on a panel of Jews, Muslims, Christians (apologetics) More
on Carol's Blog Here
There is
talk of organizing a 'filed trip' to the Chapel--
I have been there, it is awesome architecturally and, to an artist's
eye, artistically beautiful, with wise use
of the very valuable property!
Let us NOT allow this Chapel to be
closed by the LCMS as was the Lutheran Chapel at the University of
Minnesota!! This was short sighted
on the part of the LCMS leadership, as observed by any with a vision to
minister to our future, the youth!
Details here!

How You Can "Speak" |
|
I was shaking hands after preaching a Life Sunday
sermon. Out of the corner of my eye I could see
three women, and it was apparent by their posture
they were waiting to speak to me. My immediate
thought was that I must have somehow offended them.
My fears were allayed, however, when they smiled as
they approached me. “That was a great sermon,” one
of them said. “Thank you,” I responded knowing
somehow that more was coming. It did. “But, you
didn’t tell us what we could do.
They were right. I had preached a sermon that
encouraged action on the part of the listeners, but
I did not give them any direction or guidance for
that action.
This article is designed to correct that error!
As you will see, we brought together a multitude of
ideas!

God’s Promises for Those Who Speak in
His Name
… “‘Do not be
afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you,’ declares the LORD
‘Behold, I have put my words in your mouth’”
(Jeremiah 1:8-9).
… “They will
fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you,
for I am with you, declares the LORD, to deliver you” (Jeremiah 1:19).
Speaking
in the Church

your congregation.
-
Sponsor a Mother’s Day breakfast.
-
Show the
For Life DVD (available from Lutherans For Life) to church
groups.

Host a coffee hour after worship
and distribute pro-life/LFL materials.
-
Speak to church groups and
community organizations about the ministry of Lutherans For Life and
the importance of connecting God’s Word to the life issues.

miscarriage, illness, etc.) has the opportunity to write the child’s
name on a heart and hang it on the tree, offering a private prayer.
-
Encourage your congregation to
observe a Sanctity of Human
Life Sunday. New materials are available each year from
Lutherans For Life (bulletin insert, sermons, worship service
formats).
Speaking Through Worship
-
Provide altar flowers dedicated
to mothers (Mother’s Day) and give them to moms after church service
has ended.
-
Have your adult and/or children’s
choir sing
God Knew Your Name during the worship service. Have the lyrics
printed in the bulletin.
-
Place a white flower in
chancel/altar when a person is baptized (representing the new life
found in Christ).
-
Make a For Life banner for church
in conjunction with Life Sunday or other event.
-
Use LFL’s Mothers’ Day and
Fathers’ Day inserts.
-
On Life Sunday, celebrate the
baptism of all children baptized since the previous year’s Life
Sunday. Each family gets a letter of invitation prior to the Life
Sunday “celebration.”

Lost Brothers and Sisters –
Forgiveness in Russia |
|
by
Rev. Don Richman, LFL International Representative |
|
In
May of this year, along with a series of Bible studies on living the
Christ-centered life, I did a study on abortion and forgiveness.
After the Bible study he shared these troubling thoughts with me. “When
I was a child,
I had a great family. It consisted of my older brother, dad, mom and
me—also two grandmothers and many, many relatives. And this family is
the same great family today. We lived in a country with strong
patriarchal traditions. I often saw families with three, four, and more
children. I saw grown-ups coming from such families and realized that
when they grew up life was easier and fuller for them. I have a great
older brother, whom I deeply love, but I’ve always wanted to have
more of such brothers, and also sisters!
|
I have known “Pavel” for two years. He is the associate pastor
in an ELKROS Church (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia and
Other States) on the Volga River in west central Russia. He is a
faithful, caring pastor who loves Jesus and His word and the
people he is called to shepherd. |
As to my
childish question, “Why don’t I have more brothers or sisters?” My
parents answered that they don’t have any. And I lived peacefully and
happy. But once I heard my grandmother say that I might have more
brothers—and despite my granny’s insisting, my parents didn’t keep them.
At
that time I didn’t know what an abortion was and the mechanics of
this process were not so important to me, because I was overwhelmed by
the feeling of deep offence. I felt that someone stole something from
me—and the most dear people to me did it. They decided that they have
the power to deal with something that doesn’t belong to them completely.
It wasn’t just their sons, but also my brothers, who could support and
bless me in my life.
I thought
of them through my relations with my older brother. Though I have to
say that my brother and I had many misunderstandings, it didn’t affect
our love to one another.
I barred this feeling and never spoke of it, especially to my parents,
as I still loved them, they remained to be the closest people in my
life, and I didn’t judge them for what they have done. But I was
hurt. Even after having become an adult, and hardly remembering that
story, watching big families I sometimes still feel this old wound.
I don’t have such strong feelings now, I have accepted my parents’
choice long ago. For many years I’d been living with a hidden wound,
but the Lord filled and healed it when he gave me many brothers and
sisters in Christ.
Of course, the Lord is able to fill any lack and to heal any wound,
but it would be better if we didn’t hurt each other. My parents are
still alive, thanks to the Lord. We love each other very much. Our
family is very happy and joyful. My parents are very old and I wouldn’t
like this old story to bother them again, so please keep this story
without real names.”
Pavel’s story reminds us of one more painful consequence of the waste
and destruction brought upon us by the abortion mentality. How many
young people are hurt, angry, and resentful that their parents robbed
them of their siblings—brothers and sisters they would have grown to
love and who would have supported them throughout their lives? May God
give them the grace to forgive one more painful fruit of the abortion
culture and give us the courage to stand against this practice in
whatever way possible.
Note: According to Wikipedia, “Russia has the
highest number of abortions per women of child-bearing age in the world
according to UN data” (53.7 abortions per 1000 women age 15-44; 2.7
million abortions annually).”

Sunday articles may be read on the Lutherans For Life website:

“The
Pink Ribbon
Campaign”
Are We Funding Breast Cancer?
By: Chuck
Colson |
You’ve seen them everywhere: pink ribbons and
wristbands to raise awareness about
breast-cancer prevention.
Komen for the Cure denies the abortion-breast
cancer link.
|
|
|
|
But before
you donate, find out where the money is going. |
|
Susan
G. Komen for the Cure, formerly known as the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation, is a big promoter of the pink ribbon campaign. It
raises money for breast cancer detection and research, and it awards
grants to many worthwhile programs.
But as the Life Issues Institute points out, “In a counterproductive
twist, Komen is also funding a group that actually promotes a possible
cause of breast cancer.”
The cause? Abortion. The group? Planned
Parenthood.
According to Life Issues Institute, in at least 22 states, Komen
affiliates send donated money directly to Planned Parenthood--$3 million
dollars over the last five years. This money frees up Planned
Parenthood’s own funds for other purposes—such as promoting the morning
after pill and performing abortions.
Komen for the Cure denies the abortion-breast cancer link. But many
studies seem to confirm it. For instance, Dr. Joel Brind, an
endocrinologist and founder of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute,
found that “choosing to end a pregnancy through an induced abortion,
especially the first pregnancy as a teenager, significantly increases
breast cancer risk.”
Dr. Janet Daling, a cancer epidemiologist who supports legal abortion,
says, “I would have loved to have found no association between breast
cancer and abortion, but our research is rock solid, and our data is
accurate.” And in 2007, the Journal of American Physicians and
Surgeons found that women who have an abortion increase by 40 percent
their risk of breast cancer.
Many Americans who buy those pink bracelets may not be aware of the
strong Links between Planned Parenthood and the Komen foundation. Komen
founder Nancy Brinker once served on the advisory board of Planned
Parenthood of Dallas. One Komen Advisory Board member, Eve Sanchez
Silver, resigned when she found out how just how strong the link was
between Komen and the nation’s Number One abortion provider. Shockingly,
Silver says the Komen Foundation’s “Concern for the health of women is
now parallel to Planned Parenthood’s concern for the health of the
children that they abort.” Those are strong words.
The Komen Foundation also endorses embryonic
stem cell research, which kills human embryos.
Odd as it may seem at first glance, the link between abortion and breast
cancer is evidence for the truth of the Christian worldview. The
scriptures teach that murder is wrong in God’s eyes, including the
murder of those who are being knit together in their mother’s womb. We
should not be surprised to learn that abortion, which involves a sudden
disruption of the mother’s natural physical processes, carries with it
the seeds of destruction for mothers, as well.
If you want to support breast cancer research—a very worthy cause--check
out the Polycarp Research Institute or the Breast Cancer Prevention
Institute. But before you donate to any organization, do your own
research.
And when you see people wearing those pink ribbons, tell them that you
like raising awareness of breast cancer, but caution them that they’re
funding an outfit that may actually be increasing the breast cancer
rate: Planned Parenthood. |

November
6, 2010
Dear Pastor or LFL Contact,
It’s time for Christmas cheer and the joys of the season. We can
really get into the spirit of Christmas by attending an advent program
like the one given at the Bridge Bible Fellowship Church, 18644 Sherman
Way, Reseda, CA 91335. It will be a joyous occasion with two men’s vocal
groups leading the event’s musical program.
Before the music starts, you can attend the grand Silent Auction
beginning at 6 p.m. that is a fundraiser for the Pregnancy Resource
Center’s ministry to the young families who are faced with an unexpected
pregnancy. This wonderful event…the birth of a child...may not be
what the parents had planned for their busy lives, but it is a baby
formed by the Lord. All should have respect for this tiny life and
give it warmth and love.
May our Christmas gift from God…our Lord Jesus Christ… dwell in your
hearts this year. Reach out to defend and enrich someone’s life.
You will be rewarded by the Lord himself.
God bless you all this Christmas!
Sincerely, |

Life Sunday‘s
2011 Theme is:
“Hands that Knit, Arms that Hold” |
|
| |
|
...based on Psalm 139:13-16:
“For you formed my inward
parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I
am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul
knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being
made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes
saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
...and Mark 10:13-16:
“And they were bringing
children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked
them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the
children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom
of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God
like a child shall not enter it.’ And he took them in his arms and
blessed them, laying his hands on them.” |

Dear Friend of
Life,
The little children and grandmothers may need you—just to stay
alive. Yes, you! In fact, you may hold the key to their lives.
In the 5 weeks remaining before the elections, National Right to
Life needs to print and distribute millions of pieces of
literature that tell citizens where the candidates stand on
abortion and on the Obama health care law that would pay for
health plans that cover abortion-on-demand and would ration
lifesaving medical treatments. |

We
all have grieved the loss of someone at some point in our lives.
Nothing could be more painful than the death of a child. But those who
have lost a child because they had an abortion, or were part of an
abortion decision, often do not allow themselves to grieve or don’t know
how to grieve.
|
Give your pain
to God. It is okay to tell God how hurt you are. Be assured
there is healing in forgiveness. |
It’s so painful. It’s an experience that goes beyond our physical and
emotional being. It penetrates deep into the heart of our spiritual
life. The pain just doesn't go away!
How does one grieve the death of an unborn child when the decision to
abort seemed to be so right at the time? After all it is legal, it must
be alright.
Why would someone be unable to stop thinking about the abortion? Why the
feeling of emptiness?
Who can free me from this hurt and pain?
Give your pain to God. It is okay to tell God how hurt you are. Be
assured there is healing in forgiveness.
Being forgiven by God does not mean He wipes out our emotions and
memories. It does mean we now have a way to resolve our problems—God’s
way. If you draw on God's power for your life, your anger and bitterness
will eventually be replaced with love and peace.
There is a special ministry that can help you overcome the pain. Word of
Hope will put you in touch with a Christian caregiver who will help you
find healing and reconciliation with the Lord.

September 7, 2010
Dear Pastor or LFL Contact,
“The sin of abortion can feel like such a sin—dark, unforgivable. It
envelopes us in hopelessness and grief much like the Rachels of
Bethlehem. “A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted, because
they are no more” (Matthew 2:18). Indeed, modern-day Rachels experience
an even deeper darkness.
Unlike the Bethlehem mothers who could do nothing to stop the death of
their babies, postabortive mothers participated in a choice to have
their own baby killed. When the reality of that choice confronts
them, they are crushed, devastated, thrown by their grief into a
darkness that seems hopeless.”
“…There is hope for Rachel! In describing the grief of those Bethlehem
Rachels, Matthew quotes Jeremiah 31:15. But Jeremiah goes on. “Keep your
voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, … There is hope for your
future, declares the Lord.”
(Jeremiah 31:16-17a).”
“…God does not abandon us in our darkness, even when we choose to enter
that darkness ourselves.”
“There is hope for Rachel in Jesus the Light of Life!”

Problem Pregnancies—take time to
think. |
|
“God formed my inward
parts. God knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
|
|
Psalm 139:1 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
If you make a quick decision
about your pregnancy, you could regret it for the rest of your life. Pregnancy
happens to “all of you” -- not just your body. That’s why abortion can affect
you emotionally and spiritually as well as physically. Don’t let anyone rush
you into a decision about something that important. |
|
|
|
God cares about you in your
pregnancy.
-
God wants to forgive you no
matter what you’ve done. He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die as proof of His
love for you.
-
God planned sex as a special
gift and privilege of marriage. Sex outside of that committed union creates
problems. Teen pregnancy is one of them.
-
While God’s perfect plan is
to have new life created within marriage, nevertheless, a child created
outside of marriage is known by God and is a person for whom Christ died. The
new life you are carrying belongs to God.
“God formed my inward parts.
God knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:1 |
|
|
-
Being an unwed pregnant
teenager is not an unforgivable sin. In 1 John 1:9 it says that “if we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
-
God has a plan for you in
this pregnancy. His word makes it clear that it is not abortion…
…Many people want to help you
and your baby. |
|
Crisis Pregnancy Centers
can assist you with finances, medical care, housing, legal
aid, educational alternatives, or whatever is making your pregnancy a problem.
If you desire, staff people will talk with your parents or the baby’s father or
meet any other concerns you might have.
A pregnant teen needs a friend...
| ▪
Be a friend by encouraging her not to
make a quick decision. Haste does make waste of her life and her
baby’s. |
| ▪ Be a friend
by locating a crisis pregnancy center in her area. Free help is just
a phone call away. |
| ▪ Be a friend
by encouraging her to see a doctor for a pregnancy test. Maybe she
really isn’t pregnant! |
| ▪ Be a friend
who prays for and with her. Don’t leave God out. |
| ▪ Be a friend
who is not judgmental and who will stick with her. Be her Good
Samaritan. |
| ▪ Be a friend
who gives her this pamphlet and other informative materials.
Ignorance isn’t bliss! |
| ▪ Be a friend
who reminds her that her dearest friend, Jesus, promises to be with
her every difficult, frustrating, |
| and joyful step of the
way. |

night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5”

Rose
is President of Live Action Films, the group that has conducted investigative
stings of abortion centers and released videos to the public documenting their
devastating findings. The 20-year-old pro-life heroine displayed an eloquent
clarity and confidence at Wednesday’s press conference at the Capitol Visitor’s
Center in Washington, D.C., which addressed the findings of a GAO report showing
that well over a billion taxpayer dollars have funded abortion groups for the
past 6 to 7 years.
|
"Being
nine years old and looking at this ten-week old child, I remember
thinking, how could anyone do this to a baby?” |
That Rose should possess these
qualities is little wonder – like a Daniel in the lion’s den, she has dared
to enter Planned Parenthood facilities disguised as a 13, 14, or 15-year-old
girl. Her mission is to expose the “abortion-first mentality” of abortion
facility employees, a mentality that continues to put young girls at risk for
continued sexual exploitation by predators.
LifeSiteNews.com caught up
with Rose after the press conference. She graciously agreed to a short
interview, in which she sketched out some of her thoughts on the pro-life
movement, her own pro-life background, and what individual states are doing to
address the rampant abuse of law that she, Live Action, and other pro-life
investigators have uncovered…”
“….LSN: More on a personal
note: you got involved in this awhile ago, but how did you get involved in
pro-life work, and what keeps you going?
Rose: I come from a pro-life
family – I’m one of eight kids – and I first saw an image of an abortion
when I was nine years-old in an old book in my home. Being nine years old and
looking at this ten-week old child, I remember thinking, “how could anyone do
this to a baby?” So by the time I was fourteen or fifteen, I started up a
pro-life group in my high school, and since then it’s been a journey of
discovering new ways to educate, inspire, and create media packages that will
tell more people the truth about abortion…”

Star of
‘Bella’ To Host First Latino Pro-Life Congress |
| |
 |
LOS ANGELES, May 21, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) –
Eduardo Verástegui, Latin American superstar and the lead of the
pro-life film “Bella,” is hosting the first ever Latino United for Life
Family Congress this Sunday at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The
Congress will raise funds for pro-life projects and will feature an
assortment of pro-life entertainers, actors, and speakers throughout the
day.
| |
"The threat to
innocent life isn’t limited to the poorest nations." |
|
"The funds raised … will
be used to open a medical center in Los Angeles that provides free,
high-quality care for pregnant women and their preborn babies," stated
Eduardo Verástegui in a press release.
Verástegui said the forthcoming Guadalupe Medical Center will be
situated in an area that has ten abortion clinics, making the center
“an oasis of life in the midst of a desert of death.” |
|
|
The dream of building a
pro-life medical center in L.A. has been on the Catholic performer’s
mind for several years, after he
discovered that at least nine abortion
clinics were operating within a one mile stretch of the city.
…"Just as Latinos have
had their dignity undermined by negative stereotypes in the media, so
too have preborn babies had their dignity denied since the controversial
1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision,” said Verástegui. “It is
the mission of Manto de Guadalupe to promote the dignity of the human
person with a special focus on restoring honor and dignity to Latinos -
from the child in her father's arms to the child in her mother's womb,
from the embryo to the elderly."
The United for Life congress is the brainchild of Manto de Guadalupe, an
international aid organization founded by Verástegui, and dedicated to
promoting the dignity of the human person throughout the world
and bringing relief to those suffering extreme poverty. The group’s
projects include building homes, delivering food and medicine, and
providing lifesaving assistance to impoverished pregnant women.
…"The threat to innocent life isn’t limited to the poorest nations. We
need to be vigilant in promoting the dignity and incomparable worth of
every human person right where we are," stated Verástegui. |

The Steven Curtis Chapman Family Supports Adoption |
|
by Katie Dodd |
|
It
was a song in the heart of Chapman's oldest
daughter, Emily, that inspired Steven, 42, and wife
Mary Beth, 41, to adopt three daughters from China—Shaohannah,
6, Stevey Joy, 3, and Maria Sue, 2—and to start a
foundation to help other families adopt. Eight years
ago, Emily, then 11, took a mission trip to Haiti
and was moved by the plight of the many orphans she
saw there. |
|
|
|
"That began a
two-year campaign of 'If we've got room at our table, we can take
another child,'" says Mary Beth with a smile. Emily focused on
China—where most orphans are girls because many families believe boys
are better able to support the family and carry on the lineage—and
recruited her brothers, Caleb, now 16, and Will Franklin, now 14, to the
cause.
One day, her
still-hesitant parents found themselves wondering about the Chinese word
for laughter. Waiting for a business appointment an hour later, Steven
picked up an old copy of Reader's Digest and found a story about a
Chinese boy named Shaohan—from shao, Chinese for laughter. The couple
took it as a divine nudge for the family to stop worrying and follow the
song in their hearts.
Ten months later, they
brought home an infant Chinese daughter and named her Shaohannah. In the
ensuing years, daughters Stevey Joy and Maria followed. "It really is
the most clear miraculous experience that we've ever had," says
Steven, "just watching the doors open for us."
|
Go to the
website below to read the entire story. It will warm your
heart and is so appropriate for Mother’s Day and Father’s
Day reading and contemplating. Adoption fills the needs of
the family and the adopted child. Both are rewarded in this
God-pleasing event. |

This "Life Quote" is from Lutherans For Life
“Nebraska Gov.
Dave Heineman signed two pro-life bills into law -- one
measure that would prevent abortion of unborn children (20 weeks
or older) who are capable of feeling pain.
The other
requires the abortionist to screen women for statistically
significant risk factors that may put them at higher risk for
psychological or physical complications following an
abortion--and to advise the women of the results of the
screening.”

The Heart of God |
For Christian
fathers, the single most important thing in turning their
hearts to their children is the Fatherhood of God. God loves
fathers. He is one! He is the Father of Jesus Christ and His
love for fathers flows through His Son. Through Jesus, fathers
understand they live in grace.
This is where
they find the love, motivation, and strength to turn their
hearts to their children. This is where they find forgiveness
when they fail and the courage they need to try again. |
|
 |
|
Happy Father’s Day!!
We couldn’t have
done it without you! May God bless you as you find ways to help
your family discover how they can use the gifts God has given
them. We know He has planned special tasks for them to do
even before they are born. |

Dear Pastor or LFL
Contact,
What a wonderful spring
we have had. God has indeed blessed our efforts in caring for the
unborn, the young moms, the young dads, and their families. There are so
many facets of the pro-life ministry. All who want to be a part can
certainly find their niche.
Our churches can be a
place where the generations can mingle and assist each other. The
grandmothers and grandfathers can help with reading to the children in
school or Sunday School. The teens can also help with picnics and games
for the elderly and for the children. All can be a part of this type of
activity where the multi-generational community can come together to
grow and to have fun!
May God bless you and
keep you in His care as your enjoy the summer activities. |

Life Quote...
"You are valuable to God because He made you and He loved
what He made so much that He was conceived in a womb, born in a stable, suffered
on a cross, buried in a tomb. Then He rose again to say ‘Yes’ to it all, to say
‘Yes’ to you, to give you His victory over death and the grave. That’s love!"

Planned Parenthood Clinic Director
Joins Anti-Abortion Group
Abby Johnson Says 'Change of Heart' Caused Her to Join
Coalition for Life
By ANNE-MARIE DORNING
Nov. 5, 2009 |
|
|
"...I could see the baby try to move away from the
probe." |

Abby
Johnson quit her job. That simple act has become a national news story because
Johnson, 29, was the director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas who said
she experienced a "change of heart" while participating in an abortion
procedure.
Abby Johnson, left, the former director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas,
quit her job. Johnson has now
joined a group called Coalition
for Life, which prays outside the clinic where she worked.
"I had never seen an
abortion happen on an ultrasound," she said. "My job during
the procedure was to hold the probe on the woman's abdomen. I could see the
whole profile of the baby 13 weeks head to foot. "I could see the whole side
profile. I could see the probe. I could see the baby try to move away from the
probe."
Johnson worked at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan,
Texas, for nine years, first as a volunteer and then as the director. Her duties
included running the family planning and
abortion
programs. The clinic performed
abortions two days a month.
Although she had seen ultrasounds before, including during
her own pregnancy, Johnson said she had never seen an ultrasound image during an
abortion. She is unclear why, as the director of the clinic, she was asked to be
in the procedure room on that day, because it was not a normal part of her
duties. Still, Johnson said, the experience changed her forever. "I just
thought, 'What am I doing?" she said. "And then I thought, 'Never again.'" Two
weeks later, Johnson quit.
"I looked out the window and saw a couple of women praying
and I thought, "That's where I need to go," Johnson said. She walked down the
street and into the welcoming arms of the Coalition for Life. Although she had
originally been happy at her job, Johnson slowly grew to question "the motives
of the organization," she said, particularly because her superiors were pushing
clinics that did have an abortion program to bring in more money.”

Fundraiser Event for April/May
The Pregnancy Resource Center’s annual Baby Bottle Boomerang fundraiser will
begin in the San Fernando Valley area this spring in several Lutheran churches
that lend their support to the Center and to L. A. Lutherans For Life. Last year
six or seven joined in a matching campaign through Thrivent Financial For
Lutherans. This year, LALFL will again request the 1:3 matching and ask donors
to fill the bottles with coins, cash, or checks and then return the bottles to a
designated area on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2010. This is a great project for the
whole family.
Any churches or pro-life groups may initiate this BBB program in their own areas
by contacting the staff at the Pregnancy Resource Center at:
(818) 830-2499. Just tell them your group would like to raise funds for the
Center or another pregnancy center in your own area, using baby bottles, and
they will help you get started.
::
Mother’s Day Baby Shower For the Pregnancy Centers
Mother’s Day, May 9th, is also a day for gathering baby clothes, diapers, diaper
bags, and other baby supplies to be given to the young mothers who need this
kind of practical support. The churches have been very generous in the past and
their gifts are very much appreciated by the young moms and their children. We
ask that clothes be for ages: birth to 18 months; and that the diapers be sizes
1 to 4.

March 5, 2010 Dear Pastor or LFL Contact,
As we celebrate the 40 days of Lent and Easter, let us focus on the new life our
Lord Jesus has given to us by his sacrifice. Let us protect the life of all of
the residents of our communities, young or old, rich or poor, healthy or ill.
The Lord taught us to love and we need to teach others by our own actions. May
we be the good examples we were born to be.

Christian Couple Adopts 8 Burmese Refugee
Children |
|
By Jennifer Riley - Christian Post Reporter |
|
Fri, Dec. 11 2009 06:00 PM EDT |
|

A Christian couple who leads a
ministry that supports persecuted Christians announced
this week their successful adoption of eight Burmese refugee
children.
Jim and Karen Jacobson of Michigan-based Christian
Freedom International said they may very well be the first
Americans to be allowed to adopt Karen refugee children who
lack official birth records, which means there was no real
way to determine the children’s true eligibility for
adoption.
The children, four of whom are siblings, came
directly to the United States from Burma’s refugee camps and
had no birth certificate. After nearly 18 months of legal
procedures, a Michigan judge overseeing the Jacobson’s case
decided to accept the children’s green cards and immigration
paperwork as “Other Proof of Birth.” |
|
|
(The Jim and Karen Jacobson
Family - ASSIST News Service) |
|
The Jacobsons, who have worked
extensively among the Karen people of Burma, said they
wanted to tell their story to encourage other Americans who
want to adopt refugee children that don’t have the required
birth certificate. The Karen people are an ethnic minority
in Burma. They are mostly Christian in the predominantly
Buddhist country and have suffered from severe persecution
by Burma’s military regime.
The Jacobsons' organization, CFI, has worked with thousands
of persecuted Karen and Karenni Christians in Burma and
Thailand. The organization helps build schools and medical
clinics, as well as delivers humanitarian aid to the
refugees. The Jacobsons now have 12 children and reside in
Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Their ministry provides housing,
employment opportunities, transportation and food and
medical assistance to dozens of Kare.”

Prospects rosy for adult stem-cell treatments |
|
Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow |
|
Medical
Research the past decade spelled success in research with
adult stem cells. |
|
|
|
|
The one area in stem-cell research where
there have been no successful treatments is research on
human embryos, which involves killing a tiny human being.
Dr. David Prentice of the Family Research Council tells
OneNewsNow there has been progress in a related field, that
of induced pluripotent stem cells that can be developed by
taking, for example, skin cells and adding a few genes and
reprogramming the cell so it looks and acts like an
embryonic stem cell.
David Prentice (FRC)But the real success, says Prentice, has
been with adult stem cells.
"We've
got stem cells in all of these tissues from the moment we're
born," he explains. "They're in the umbilical cord blood
that we cut off the newborn baby -- and these are the cells
that actually can repair and replace damaged tissue."
Research on adult stem cells is already helping thousands of
people, treating such things as spinal cord injury, heart
damage, stroke, and juvenile diabetes. "And the list keeps
growing," Prentice adds.
Almost 80 diseases and medical conditions are now treated
with many success stories, so Dr. Prentice believes adult
stem-cell research now and in future years will produce even
more cures and treatments.”

Adoption: The
Loving and Positive Option
by Diane E. Schroeder
“Adoption is wonderful. Anyone who knows my husband and me knows
that adoption has been a significant blessing in our life. God
blessed us with four wonderful children through adoption. Mike,
Liz, Paul, and Beka are all young adults now, well-educated, on
their own (mostly), and thriving. I am grateful to their birth
mothers for allowing them to live and experience all of God’s
blessings and purpose that He designed for them. Their birth
mothers are truly courageous women who I admire and respect. |
|
|
Adoption is a loving option chosen by a young woman
who is thinking of the well-being of her child. Adoption was the primary
force that God used to "push" me into the pro-life movement and
Lutherans For Life. How different my life would have been without the
gift of adoption.
…Know that adoption is a tool used by God to solve family problems.
Biblical models of adoption abound, Moses (Exodus 2); Eliezer (Genesis
15); Ephraim and Manasseh (Genesis 48); Samuel (1 Samuel 1); and of
course Jesus adopted by Joseph. In unwanted pregnancy situations,
adoption—not abortion—is a God-pleasing solution.” |

Bus Ride,
Lodging Offered to Life Marchers
“To encourage more Lutheran participation in the Jan. 22
"March for Life" in Washington, D.C., a group bus ride
is being offered by LCMS Life Ministries, a program area
of LCMS World Relief and Human Care (WR-HC), and the Lutherans
For Life (LFL) delegation is arranging free lodging for
travelers.
Titled "Roadtrip for Life," the bus ride will be hosted by LCMS
Life and Health Ministries Director Maggie Karner, whose
department is co-sponsoring the ride with Advent Lutheran Church
in Zionsville, Ind., which is providing the bus.
The bus ride will originate in Indianapolis, and enable those
interested in joining other Lutherans for the 37th annual march
to ride along with Karner as a group. Reservations will be on a
first-come, first-served basis, with a donation requested to
assist with the costs of gas and driver fees.
To reserve a spot on the "Roadtrip for Life" bus, call
Karner or Sandy Burris at 800-248-1930, ext. 1371, or e-mail
maggie.karner@lcms.org
After arriving in Washington, participants may stay for up to
two nights free in the homes of area Lutherans, arranged by
members of the LFL delegation. Dennis Di Mauro, organizer of the
delegation for the 12th year and leader of the LFL chapter in
northern Virginia, said the march to protest the 1973 Supreme
Court decision to legalize abortion is more important this year
than ever as the country debates the health care system. |

Let's Not Overlook the Adoption Crisis
Thursday, October 8, 2009 3:08 PM
By: Michael Reagan |
|
"As our healthcare system is debated in Congress and we continue to face down pro-choice challenges in the bill, I want to take the time to remind all of us of another vulnerable segment of our
population… |
|
…In this country, there are 129,000 children waiting to be adopted. Most of those are already legally severed from their birth parents and could therefore be adopted into new families with no delays. But last year alone, more than 28,000 children were left without families. |
|
|
This does not need to be the case. Improvements to the adoption system in our country have made the process smoother, faster, and less expensive than it once was. Children in foster homes can be adopted without legal complications. Those who choose to adopt an infant can be paired with their child from before birth and even build a relationship with the birth mother.
Over and over again, in personal stories and in comprehensive studies, we are shown the overwhelming benefits of adoption. Children left in foster care not only struggle with being bounced from place to place in shifting relationships, but also face a terrible struggle when they leave the system and are left with no family support, no adequate resources, and a lack of practical preparation.
Conversely, children who are adopted — either as infants or later in life — have proven that strong, successful families do not require ties of blood, and children can rebound from early trauma and experience deep healing and love.
Many of you know that I myself was adopted as an infant. I can think of no greater blessing than the family I was brought into, of the chance for a new life from the start. Every child is a gift from God, and every child deserves a loving family. As individuals and as a nation, we must make that understanding a priority moving forward.”

Dear Pastor or LFL Contact,
The special materials for Sanctity of Human Life Sunday,
January 17, 2010, are available on the National Lutherans For Life website: www.lutheransforlife.org. The new LFL catalogs also include other topics that may be used as alternative themes on this Sunday that commemorates the Roe v. Wade decision of January 22, 1973. One such series is on adoption. If you were touched by Michael Reagan’s article in this newsletter, you might want to consider materials on the benefits of adoption for the mother, baby, and the adoptive parents. These materials may be ordered by phone at: 1-888-364-LIFE. A call to the LFL staff will be very helpful as you determine how these brochures, videos, and books can be used in your church for Bible studies, Life Sunday services, or youth programs.
Merry Christmas to you and your congregation. God’s blessings to you in the coming New Year. |
